Harry has participated in Sport all of his life including football, boxing, running from 100metres up to marathon distance and in more recent years indoor rowing, representing Cleveland Police in many. For a number of years when in his forties he took part in National Cross Training events which involved completing 10 disciplines in the gym over a timed course, an extreme lung bursting tough event only for the fittest of competitors. For the last 10 years Harry has been a regular competitor in Indoor Rowing events both nationally and internationally. He has rowed at the World Police and Fire Games (the second largest games to the Olympics in terms of participants) a biannual event, for the last 6 years competing in his age group in Barcelona, Quebec and Adelaide winning
a silver medal in Quebec in the doubles event.
He says the highlight was the opening ceremony in Barcelona in the 1992 Olympic stadium. He is now training for the 2011 Games in New York where he hopes to row again and also take part in an event curiously named the 'Toughest Competitor Alive' which involves 8 events in one day including strength disciplines and endurance events, devised to find the fittest emergency service workers in the World. With all this experience Harry had always wanted to pass on his knowledge for the benefit of others hence setting up as a Personal Trainer. On retiring from the Police Harry took up employment
with Cleveland Potash managing The Dome a gym on the Potash site used by the workforce and the public. After an enjoyable and successful couple of years there Harry left to concentrate on his GO4FIT business but within a few months he moved on to work part time with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council in the field of exercise prescription. Here Harry gained extensive experience of working with clients with many and varying health conditions who had been prescribed exercise by their GPs. Conditions included heart and cardio, COPD, diabetes, arthritis, obesity and mental health related. As a result his current clients can be assured of a knowledgeable and professional approach to training clients with existing health conditions. After 18 months with R and C Harry has returned to his Personal Training business and is now based at the Wellbeing Centre in Station St (above Sainsburys) and welcomes back old clients and new.
Harry is very excited by his new working partnership with the Wellbeing Centre, with the opportunity of working alongside other professionals with mutual benefits. GO4FIT will be offering one on one personal training and small group training (2-4) at affordable rates. The training will be individually designed and will meet the individual needs with an empathetic and motivational approach. GO4FIT also provides a sports massage service for remedial purposes or to attend to any aches and pains from weary muscles. Harry is a great believer in 'Use it or Lose It' and in gradual progression in fitness and does not sign up to the 'no pain no gain' philosophy.
